Impact of Museums on Health and Wellbeing – Literature Review

Earlier this year, DC Research completed a literature review for Museums Galleries Scotland - https://www.museumsgalleriesscotland.org.uk/ - which looked at the evidence of the impact of museums on the fields of health and wellbeing.

The study was a desk-based review of literature about the impact of museums in the fields of health and wellbeing, the purpose of which was to help inform MGS’s work on behalf of the Scottish museums and galleries sector, in developing a nationwide approach to measuring and articulating the social impact of museums and galleries.

The review looked at a range of specific themes – linked to four national outcomes of the Scottish Government’s National Performance Framework: Health; Communities; Education; and Children – and identified a range of examples from previous research and academic literature about the impact of museums in these areas.
