The Gaelic Economy in Glasgow

Glasgow City Council - https://glasgow.gov.uk/ - has commissioned DC Research in partnership with Prof Mike Danson, Dr Douglas Chalmers and Eilidh Danson to carry out a research study about the ‘Gaelic Economy in Glasgow’.

The aim of the study is to demonstrate the value, growth, and impact of Gaelic in Glasgow. The study is estimating the economic value of Gaelic, show the growth in its use, and illustrate how the language and culture have impacted on the wellbeing of Glasgow’s citizens.

The work involves a range of consultations with key organisations and stakeholders, surveys of businesses, community groups and individuals, and a range of desk-based research tasks.

The findings will help to inform Glasgow City Council’s next Gaelic Language Plan as well as providing evidence about the role and contribution of Gaelic to the Glasgow economy.
